Volunteer Descriptions

Here are brief descriptions of your potential volunteer duties:

Setup/Tear down

  • these shifts will involve some lifting (under 30 lbs) and work with food, if there is any reason you are unable to preform these duties please notify an organizer immediately
  • there are a variety of shifts ranging from 7 am – 5 pm
  • volunteers will assist the organizers in room set-up and tear down and will be given individual directions upon arrival

Registration

  • variety of shifts are scheduled between 7 am – 12 pm
  • greet and record attendance of all WordCamp participants
  • provide participants with a general idea of the building layout and answer any questions they may have
  • no heavy lifting is required here, just a friendly face and general knowledge of what will happen during the day
  • an orientation will be provided upon your arrival

Roving

  • you will be a jack of all trades filling in where ever is necessary
  • if you like the thrill of multitasking this is the position for you
  • you will be given directions and a brief orientation by an organizer when you arrive
  • there are a variety of shifts scheduled throughout the day

Room Monitor

  • introduce yourself to the presenter(s)
  • confirm the start and finish time of the session
  • make sure to offer the speaker a bottle of water (will be provided)
  • ensure that they are comfortable with having a question and answer period and discuss how much time they want to allow
  • remind them to repeat the questions asked so that it gets recorded or heard on the live stream
  • let them know where you will be in the room and that you will give them a 5 min notice before the designated question period, and a notice that their presentation will be ending in five minutes
  • you will not be responsible for any distribution of the speakers’ information or material
  • you will not be responsible for introducing the speaker to the room or have any microphone or speaking responsibility/time
  • you will be given a cell phone number for at least one if not two organizers to connect with  during your shift if anything urgent arises
  • shifts are scheduled from 9 am – 5 pm

Audio/Visual

  • volunteers will participate in a training session at 8 am in the Lyceum Room
  • there are a variety of shifts throughout the day 6am-5pm
  • it is important to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time as these positions are very time sensitive
